The Good Friend Program focuses on serving monolingual and low-income seniors in Chinatown. Seniors' health and well-being are highly impacted by social isolation and loneliness. This peer support program allows staff to facilitate bi-weekly phone and video chat with pairs and teach skills for listening and supporting each other. Although staff continues to do weekly 'hello checks' and virtual group support since March 2020, this is an innovative approach to provide fun and informative incentives to seniors as we prepare for a longer shelter in place and slow re-emergence to normal social supports.
The Emerging from Covid - Strong Families Project focuses on families who live in Chinatown SROs, helping them “reemerge” from the COVID-19 Pandemic. Many families are still afraid to leave home and often get the wrong information. Monthly meetings will keep families updated on the pandemic, so they can feel safe and know how to stay safe, as they begin to resume a new normal. Activities include exercise, field trips, cultural celebrations, etc, (following DPH guidelines). There will also be workshops for both parents and children. Community Partners may include the Chinatown Public Health Center, AAMG, Chinatown Community Development Center, and SF Rec & Park.
